Tesla Roadster

Even though only two (count ‘em, one two) cars have left Tesla’s British factory, the company’s CTO revealed details about a new updated driveline slated to make it’s way into Roadster #41. Why so soon? As has been well documented basically everywhere, Tesla ran into some pretty serious transmission problems. So bad in fact, that they had to dump their planned 2-speed box in favor of a single gear. But this meant that the Roadster couldn’t meet its promised 4 second flat sprint to 60 mph. But with the new driveline — consisting of an updated PEM (power electronics module), motor and propshaft — 4 seconds to 60 should be a cakewalk. Especailly as the new motor will make more power. And if you want a really good explanation of what’s happening in the 1.5 cars, check out our good buddy — and actual engineer — Sam’s more technical write up over at Autoblog Green.
