br1 Bullrun 2008: Los Angeles Pit Stop

Here’s the long and the short: this year’s Bullrun began in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on June 20. It finishes tomorrow (June 27) in Phoenix. Last night the happy go lucky band of (rich) car enthusiasts parked their rides along the Sunset Strip and got tanked. We showed up and snapped a few photos, met some nice folks and saw a celeb or two. Oh, and the car you’re looking at? That’s a SSC Ultimate Aero TT, which according to the Guinness Book of Records is the fastest production car in the world (255 mph). As Jason Statham barked when we saw him climbing out of the 1,183 horsepower world beater’s passenger seat, “You have to respect a monster like this.” Indeed. Mucho mas after le jump.

I suppose what I find so odd about events like the Bullrun, is that cars I would normally murder a second cousin just to catch a glimpse of suddenly become almost pedestrian. I mean, I was standing next to a 997 Turbo for five minutes before I even noticed it. Take the Aston Martin DBS above. I mean, James Effing Bond drives one, yet it was just sorta ho hum when surrounded by all the other uber exotic metal.

Like this Spyker C8 Spyder. Holy Jeebus, can this Dutch beauty cut a rug. It was breathtaking. Traffic stopping. Just fantastic in every way a car can be. Forget about the fire-spitting Audi 4.2-liter V8 that sits behind the seats — check out the seats! And the dash and the shifter and the pedals. And the tips of the pipes!

Flabbergasting, right? But it wasn’t just the new metal that spun our heads around and around.
