ae86a Details of the Subaru and Toyota Joint RWD Coupe

Just yesterday we shared the news that Subaru is hard at work on a coupe version of the Impreza. Not only that, but Toyota’s getting its own version to sell as a Celica. We speculated that perhaps the joint Subaru/Toyota RWD coupe might be a Supra. Nope. Turns out it’s going to be a replacement for the drift king Toyota AE86 Corolla Coupe. Here’s the pertinent info: 220 hp, RWD, 6-speed manual transmission, starting at $20,000 and coming in 2010. Where do we pre-order? There will also be a range topper with AWD and 300 horsepower, but we don’t understand how that would differ from an Impreza Coupe. Regardless, the Toyota version will be Japan-only, whereas the Subaru will be the world car. Click over to Motor Authority for some heavily clad spy shots.
