In an eventful afternoon of racing 2008’s Mr Consistency, Robert Kubica took his BMW Sauber home to a maiden F1 win at the Montreal GP–certainly a better result than last year’s smash up. Unusual highlights of the race included Lewis Hamilton, despite a driving vacation in Los Angeles, rear-ending Kimi Raikkonen who was waiting at a red light at pit exit. Hamilton was then rear-ended by Nico Rosberg. Ever the Iceman. Kimi claimed not to be angry by the incident even though it cost him a possible win and puts Kubica at the top of the Drivers’ Championship.
Official’s wrist-slapped Hamilton (and Rosberg) for driving dumb with a ten position hold-back on the next race grid—hence Kimi’s cool head. Seems like the Hamiltons haven’t been driving so well this week—check his Dad’s offroad excursion in a $400k Porsche Carrera GT here.
Nick Heidfeld and David Coulthard rounded out the podium—its been a while for “oldest man on the grid” Dave, 37! I’d fill you in on more but no-one told me the race would be live on Fox instead of Speed so my Tivo missed it! I also missed Adrian Sutil wrecking his Force India Ferrari and Fernando Alonso spinning out while in contention for the podium for the first time this year. Damn, sounds like it was another good one.
