Playing the good journalist, I sat through an hour and a half of interviews with various execs and of course the three teams of nine drivers faithfully taking notes in the spectacular Audi Arena. Got back to my hotel room tonight and pulled out my notebook only to find that I’d picked up a blank one. Oh well. The upshot is that the three teams consisting of TDI #1 with Tom Kristensen, Dindo Capello, and Allan McNish, TDI #2 of Frank Biela , Emanuele Pirro and Marco Werner, and TD #3 with Mike Rockenfeller, Lucas Luhr and Alexandre Premat aren’t worried that the archrival diesel Peugeots qualified in front of them and are technically turning faster laps. There’s seven wins and two podium finishes in the last nine Le Mans races for Audi and they are banking on their long experience and superior pit crews and preparation to put them in front. I’m rooting for them–and not just because the good folks at Audi are hosting.
