Audi has a clear target now for the RS5 in the current M3 coupe. So word is now leaking via Germany’s Autozeitung and out of Ingolstadt about how they plan on taking on the hallowed two door from Munich. The RS will be a serious step up on the regular S5. The heart of the car will be an upgraded version of the B7 RS4’s 4.2 FSI V8 reportedly pumped up another 50hp to 470hp—imagine the noise that’s going to make! Weight is an issue so liberal use of magnesium and aluminum will save 50kg. The target is 1580kg even with 20 inch wheels and upsized brakes on each corner and more muscular bodywork. The magic intelligent suspension of the RS4 will return with more refinements and a double clutch auto-manual will match the M3’s DCT setup. While we were hoping that Audi would drop in a twin turboed V10 and do battle with the Nissan GT-R, we’re still not mad at what we’re hearing. Hit the jump for another look.
