It seems like everyone’s gunning for the ZR1’s spot at the top of the Nurburgring heap, including Audi. The company has let it slip that the new V10 variant of the R8 will set a lap time lower than the now legendary ZR1 once complete. Along with the new 535 horse 10-pot, the car is receiving suspension and chassis tweaks to deal with the extra gusto. That means bigger air intakes to feed the beast and massive brakes to bring it to a halt. Can the car do it? We’ll have to wait until after the Paris Motor Show in October when the car’s unveiled, or just a few weeks prior to that. What’s our bet? After watching Jim Mero’s act of car god-like speed ‘round the ‘Ring, the Audi will have to be damn fast to dethrone the Vette. Still, we love a good street fight. [Motor Authority]
