green ferrari Ferrari Goes Green (er)

Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, president of Ferrari, has given the word that his company’s envy-producing machines will dump 40 percent less green house gasses on the rest of us peons in a slim four years. Using a mix of constructing lighter vehicles and perfecting their Kinetic Energy Recycling System (KERS), di Montezemolo hopes to stab back at the European Union’s ruling that carmakers drop their noxious output by 2012. No worries, this Prancing Horse isn’t going to be kin to the Prius. di Montezemolo says the cars will still be all Italian Muscle. Considering that the fastest 0-60 time for any pre-IS-F Lexus was shared by the GS and LS hybrids (5.2 seconds), we’re willing to bet he’s right. Other tweaks include the use of smaller displacement, turbocharged V6’s that deliver better fuel economy while still producing epic power. Now us Fiends are just wondering, what took them so long?
