There’s rare and then there’s stupid rare: Ferrari built about 1,300 F40s, McLaren built 72 F1s, Bugatti built 6 Type 41 Royales, but Rolls-Royce only ever built one Silver Wraith Vignale. Of course all the cars mentioned are infinitely more desirable than the homely, almost Zephyr looking Roller. Built off a long-wheelbase Silver Wraith chassis for New York’s Joseph Maschuch, the big sedan was first sent to Italy and Alfredo Vignale Coachworks. Sounds pretty good so far. Oddly, but we like-y, the engine block, head, dynamo, starter, air cleaner, carburetor, and inlet manifold were all painted green. Thats pretty cool. The front seats are electric and the rear seats sport a full bar w/TV — in 1955! (the Silver Wraith Vignale is based on a 1954 chassis, but it took a year to build) My hesitation comes from the fact that it also has a toilet under the back seat. And even though the ad claims it’s “mostly used for chilling champagne” we’re just not that interested. But hey, if you gotta go, you gotta go want the Silver Wraith Vignale, it’s being auctioned off this weekend in Pebble Beach. [Blackhawk Collection]
