There’s really no other way to say it. BMW has announced that the delicious, light-weight CSL version of the already killer (but hefty) M3 we were anxiously awaiting ain’t happening. The Bavarians say that it knocked the CSL off the shelf to “focus on other projects.” But unless those happen to be an even lighter, more powerful and faster M3, our feelings are hurt. Especially if this is the other project. BMW also mentioned something about insufficient demand for a stripped down M3, but we think if they took the time to cruise the paddock at an NASA or SCCA event, they’d see otherwise. The M3 is a track titan straight out of the box, and the light-weight version would have been damn near unstoppable with some half-decent rubber. We’ll be in mourning over this stillborn 470 horse monster for awhile. [Leftlane]
