So says Autoblog. According to Mazda’s PR man Jeremy Barnes, the 2.3-liter direct injected turbo that kicks mucho booty in various states of tune under the hoods of the CX-7, Mazdaspeed 3 and Mazdaspeed 6 simply will not fit in the diminutive Miata. Well, the engine will fit, but unless they cut a hole in the firewall the water pump won’t. That’s a shame, as the current Miata’s only shortcoming is its relative lack of grunt. Still, what the wee roadster lacks in straight line acceleration it more than makes up for by dint of being able to carry any velocity through nearly any corner. In fact I was just talking about the MX-5 Miata the other night. I believe I was saying that for the money, it’s the best car you can buy. Speaking for Fiends everywhere, I just want to say to Mazda: cut a hole in the damn firewall thanks. [Hats tipped to Autoblog]
