Not to be outdone by Nissan’s stroke of genius, Pontiac has not only decided to continue on with its G8 Sport truck for 2010, but they’re going to call it the G8 ST. I’ll leave the snore-fest name alone for the time being to focus on the more obvious problems with the plan. Is there a huge demand for a resurrection of the mullet-mobile El Camino that I’ve just missed somehow? [Oh yes -- Ed] How about “sport trucks” in general. As best as we can recall, the last car/truck mash-up was the Subaru Baja, which failed epically. Chevrolet took a crack at the sport truck realm with the SSR, but thanks to the $50k price tag, it too went the way of the Phaeton. Now with gas prices chillin’ in the $4.00 range, Pontiac thinks a two-seater, pick-up version of its stellar V8-powered G8 sedan is the answer? We’re hoping Pontiac will wake up in time to realize this is a bad idea, or we’ll come to cold-sweat consciousness out of this nightmare. Either would be acceptable. [Carscoop]
