tomtom TomTom GPS Big Brother Tells Us Where The Po Po Is

TomTom’s newest GPS unit uses some pretty neat tech to stay updated on traffic conditions. The system has stored drive time figures for multiple routes, and combines that information with anonymous surveys of the number of mobile phones moving through a network. If there are lots of phones stuck in one area, the Go x40 Live will alter its route to get you where you’re going ASAP. The really cool part is that users can input information on everything from radar-running police to cheap petrol prices. Not to go all Orwellian on you guys, but we still can’t get over the notion of our speed being visible via the phone in our pocket, even if it is anonymous. The idea of knowing where the boys in blue are sitting is a tasty one, though. So far the TomTom Go x40 Live is only supported in the UK, Netherlands, German, France and Switzerland.
