lagondawagon1 Forget Supersaloons: First Lagonda An SUV?

Possibly. First things first. Remember a few weeks back when we heard rumblings that Aston Martin’s Dr. Ulrich Bez intends to revive the Lagonda brand? Good. Now, when the news first broke, we (along with everyone else) assumed that the Lagonda Concept due to hit the auto show circuit next year would in fact be a big, sporty 4-door sedan. But… Aston Martin is busy putting the finishing touches on a big, sporty 4-door (even though they’re most likely going to call it a “coupe”) named Rapide. And as there’s only so much room in the $200,000+ saloon segment, Dr. Bez may have something else in mind for the first Lagonda. Here’s what the CEO of AM had to say, “The Lagonda product line [will be] exclusive, luxurious, and truly versatile with high quality and usability, and suitable for both existing and emerging markets.” Car & Driver is parsing out the the “truly versatile” and “emerging markets” parts of the sentence and concluding that the new Lagonda will be an SUV. Sure, maybe, why not? And let us be the first to say that a big, luxurious SUV powered by a V12 would be super cool — just like the Lambo LM002. The car pictured above is one of the very rare Lagonda Shooting-Brakes — about as close to “truly versatile” as Aston has ever dared to tread. [Source: C&D]
