amlagonda4ds Picture of the Day: Aston Martin Lagonda V8 Saloon

One of my all-time most favorite cars is the Aston Martin V8 Vantage Oscar India. It just so totally rules. With that in mind, today’s news that Aston Martin is (probably) reviving the Lagonda brand got me thinking about a very rare, yet incredibly spectacular car — the Aston Martin Lagonda V8 Saloon. That’s it above, and yeah, grafting the Lagonda snout to the AM fish face was in poor taste. Aside from that, the V8 Saloon is beyond reproach. Just look at it! Only seven were built (though an 8th chassis was constructed and later finished). Two of the seven had manual gear boxes. And it could go 160 mph. In the mid-70s. Which made the AM Lagonda V8 Saloon faster than anything else with 4-doors. And until the Porsche 928 showed up in 1978, 2-doors, too. Commence with the drool.

I still don’t know why there wasn’t more of a following for these cars. I’d imagine that this version and the DB style cars would be incredibly desirable. These aren’t you’re average one step from the track type sport cars. They’re more like one step from a sedan. You’d think that a straight up sedan would be desirable as well, but the market says not so much.
