r8 2 Audi: Want A V10 R8? Get In Line

Even though Audi will be rolling out two new editions of their mid-engine terror next year, the suits say waiting lists are only going to get longer. With the new RS8 V10 and its topless cohort, the R8 Spyder, just around the corner the company says that with folks already vying for the fifty or so R8’s that make it stateside each month, the “special” models will only be that much more sought after. As is, you can expect to wait a solid 8 months for a plain jane R8. With Audi only cranking out around twenty-seven of the 10-bangers per day for every market worldwide (and less than half of those headed our direction) there’s no escaping an epic queue. Especially as Audi board member Michael Dick is claimimg that about 80 percent of R8 buyers will opt for the 450 horse, 5.2-liter V10. Oh, and seeing as how the V10 is only a few horses up on the 414 hp V8, you can expect to see the RS8’s power go way, way up. Especially as the RS5 — which features the same 4.2-liter V8 as the R8 — will be leaving Ingolstadt with 450 ponies. Confused yet? Get in line. [Source: Car and Driver]

If the difference in power is only 36hp or so from the V8 to the V10, wouldn’t I want the V8 then? I’m sure the V8 is lighter than the V10.

  2. Zach Bowman says:

It’s true the car only has 36 more horses, but the 10-pot also packs a full 81 more lb-ft of torque, and that’s the important part. You make a good point, though. It’ll be interesting to see how the two cars stack up against each other.

And the V10 is going to be well over 500 horses…
