Yesterday’s eBay Trolling Discovery was a gorgeous Lancia that nobody except a trillionaire should buy. On the other hand, this 1974 Mazda RX-4 rotary wagon clocks in at a very sensible $6000 asking price, with the possibility of getting the seller to come down a little. The important part is the claim that its Wankel engine was totally rebuilt 500 miles ago, as we all know rotary engines aren’t exactly motors of longevity. Naturally you’d want to do a hell of a compression test or whatever else to make sure the seals are in good shape. No doubt the 3-speed automatic crunches the value a little bit – with this being a high revving rotary car and all. But you might succeed in finding a junkyard stick shift transmission that can be matched to the fairly common Mazda 13B rotary engine. There’s potential for being a car-tuning hero here, if you drop in the current generation rotary engine out of the RX-8.

I love the little styling details on this car. It’s like the designer was trying to throw in little bits without anyone noticing.
