hx6 Spy Shots: BMW X6 ActiveHybrid

Thar she blows! Kidding. But she does have a hump (just not like a snow hill). Look right on top of the hood. That M3-style power bulge is (presumably) there to house all the extra hybrid components. According to BMWblog the X6 ActiveHybrid will not feature cylinder deactivation. Why’s that? Because BMW engineers feel they can get the same MPG savings via direct injection and variable valve timing. What about direct injection, variable valve timing and cylinder deactivation? You’ve never argued with a BMW engineer, have you? No word on real world mileage, why the X6 looks so odd with smaller wheels and tires or this 5,000+ pound cetacea’s raison d’etre.
