While strolling the floor of the Long Beach Motorcycle show I was stopped in my tracks by a trio of café racers. Local boy, Roland Sands created these three customs from three different single cylinder dirt bikes. The monster is a Honda CR500 based water cooled two stroke. Somehow Roland uses the modern aluminum perimeter frame to create a kind of futuristic Mad Max style rat rod—it’s a stunner with sixty or so two stroke horsepower and weighing I’m guessing maybe 250lbs. Probably a blast to ride. The Honda XR400 based air cooled bike in white properly echoes the machines that used to blast out of London’s Ace Café in the sixties and seventies. As does the Yamaha YZF based bike with its brown leather saddle and bag. Simply amazing and I gotta get me one of these. May have to take a Sawzall to my KTM 525 next weekend!
