wrc 03 Rumors Are True: Subaru Says Goodbye To WRC

It’s a dark day, Fiends. Yesterdays post about the nasty rumors surrounding Subaru’s withdrawal from WRC left us some tiny glimmer of hope that it just wasn’t true. Today, Fuji Heavy Industries (Subaru’s parent company) announced it has no intention of campaigning in the 2009 FIA WRC. As Jonny pointed out yesterday, Subaru is rally to legions of fans everywhere, and with good reason. The company pulled down three driver’s titles and as many manufacturer’s titles during its stint with the program. Subaru’s withdrawal leaves just Ford and Citroen with factory-backed teams,  which doesn’t bode well for the survival of the WRC. We’re already in the “anger” stage of grief. We’ll meet you at “acceptance” in a week or so. [Source: FHI]
