shark1 Thunderhill LeMons: Riding the Whale Shark

It’s 7:01 am. We’ve been on the road since 1:16 am. After a ludicrous, layover and delay-ridden schlep back from Philly, me and Sharks ringleader Antonia climbed into my WRX and left LAX longterm parking at 12:46 am. I’m now in 34 foot Fleetwood RV (aka the Whale Shark) with her and the rest of the Sharks (aka V.I.P. Racing) heading up to the legendary Thunderhill track for the last LeMons race of the 2008 season, Arse-Freeze-Apalooza. I’ve had two cans of Redbull and maybe nine minutes of shuteye. Shark instigator and Fashion plate Clay Bush drove the first leg. The Fleetwood’s 6.8-liter Triton V10 struggled to pull the Shark up the Grapevine. And yes, we were just as flabbergasted as the two British team members as to why this rig’s not a diesel. But Mr. Bush got us up and over and then handed the reigns off to Brit Josh Marcuson who has impressed the hell out of me with his hot shoe RV-hauling-a-trailer bravado. The Sharks seem upbeat about their chances at Thunderhill. Considering that even after their record setting nine black flag performance in Houston they came in 26th overall, I’m thinking they could find themselves in the top 10. Possibly top 5 if the Shark holds together. Especially if Josh here can run a crap car ’round a track as well as he can muscle a rig. Oh man, we just went through Stockton – LeMons founder Jay Lamm’s hometown. 130 miles to go. Luckily when we stopped for gas, I bought four more Redbulls. Cheers, mate.
