Back in the 1970s, when life was not so hot for American Motors, they truly broke out the creativity. Same goes for Isuzu when, around 2001, they could see that they needed something more than just the truckish Rodeo and Trooper to keep cars moving. That’s what motivated the Axiom. While it was based on the Rodeo’s body-on-frame platform, it was meant to look like a real car-based crossover. The styling — avante-garde for its day — has aged much better than most, and still looks contemporary in 2009. In 2004, Isuzu was one of the first (if not the first) manufacturers to introduce direct injection to their engine, raising the power output of their 3.5 liter V6 to 250 horses. Because it is based on the Rodeo, the Axiom acquits itself well with rough roads, and the ride is still comfortable enough on the street. Like the VehiCROSS, they have also maintained their values nicely, and the car shown here has 43,000 miles and the seller is asking $13,250. I think it’s a little high, but not a horrible rip off for a very unusual vehicle. [Source: Autotrader.com]
