800 x1204200912419 New 2009 Ford Fiesta Rally Cross Car Debuts

The new Ford Fiesta that the interwebs are all abuzz about just debuted in rally cross form at the first round of the European Rally Cross championship Lydden Hill in the UK. The car pictured here is built and run by Sweden based MSE/Ford TeamRS and piloted by European Rally Cross champion, Andreas Erikkson. While its debut wasn’t without problems, Erikkson did capture a heat win. Rally cross takes place on a short course combining gravel and tarmac, elevation changes and the occasional jump. Rally cross cars are similar to WRC cars but usually lighter and more powerful, and with four to six cars in a race the action is most definitely fast and furious. While we certainly aren’t mad at the way the street version of the Fiesta looks, this little beastie is all kinds of awesome. We’re thinking Widebody Fiesta for our next project car!
