Rumor Mongering: Pontiac Firebird Is Coming Back

What’s this now? A return of the screaming chicken? According to the pondering Fiends at eGMCarTech, Pontiac’s redefinition as a “niche” brand has opened up the doors for all kinds of possibilities. While youth-oriented compact cars (a la Scion) are a possibility, proponents of awesome are holding out for a pure-sports division, complete with the resurrection of the Firebird. Why not? The car was always a scantily-disguised Camaro, and with the people’s pony-car back in action at the end of this year, it would be easy to come up with a couple of new fascias to create another retro-muscle competitor. Of course, a lack of original models across brands is part of what put the company in its current pickle. I think we’d rather see more offerings like the G8 GXP, or maybe a second-generation Solstice that tackles the current cars, er, issues. Time will tell, Fiends. [Source: eGMCarTech]
