teslamodels Tesla Scores Over 700 Model S Orders

It’s only been two weeks since Tesla pulled the sheets off of its Model S, but the company has already taken 711 orders for the four-door ‘lectric. We hear a special Slurpee Edition Model S is in the works to celebrate. In all seriousness, that number of pre-orders is pretty amazing considering just how long it will be until the world sees hide or hair of the S. Tesla is projecting a 2011 launch date so long as everything goes right. So how much does it cost to reserve one? That’ll be $5,000. The sum goes toward the overall base purchase price of $49,900 after a $7,500 federal tax rebate. Not too shabby for a 3.9 naught to 60 jump and a 160 mile range. Tesla also made waves last month when a roadster managed the entirety of the Rally Monte Carlo d’Energies Alternatives on a single charge. It was the only car to finish the rally. [Source: Tesla]
