IMG 8873 COTW: 2009 Audi TTS Coupe

I caught a glimpse of this particular screaming Solar Orange TTS out in the canyons of Malibu a couple of months back and immediately made the request to get my mitts on her. The S-Line body kit , fat 19 inch alloys and an inch or so of drop combined with the aforementioned arrest-me orange paint really make for the ultimate TT in the looks department. It’s backed up by bespoke engine internals in the VW/Audi corporate do-it-all 2 liter four pumped up with more boost from a new turbo, a free flowing throaty exhaust, and an ECU remap. Tweaked and switcheable sport suspension mated to an S-Tronic double-clutch automanual round out the package. A premium package, navigation and silky (Audi’s term not mine) nappa leather bump the $45.5k base price into the low 50s—seemingly big money for an AWD GTI in drag. But a couple of commutes and a school run already are making me think this, at least for the US, Uber TT could be worth the scratch. Look for further thoughts when the week is out.

I had a chance to take the TTS out for a spin this weekend…

The car was SO much fun and the engine sounded fantastic.

      Dude: A5 Vs TTS?

      A5 any day.

The TTS basically proclaims to the whole world your preference of interior design to badass performance.

It’s fine, but personally, I’m not big on $100 jeans.

      • Jeff Glucker says:

Fine if we ever race up the coast… I will take the TTS and you take the A5.

You will be more comfortable but I will already be on my massage in Seattle by the time you make it through Oregon.

        • Mad_Science says:

          Ha!

If we’re talking $45-50k cars and driving up the coast, I’ll take a GT500.

          • syed says:

a TTS would outhandle a GT500 in the twisties….quite easily actually.

          • Mad_Science says:

I contend the GT500 would still be faster at the hands of a skilled driver.

Either way, the GT500 would be a lot more fun.

Power oversteer > AWD frontend plow.

Also: exhaust notes matter to me.

      • syed says:

        erm…..the TTS vs A5?

let’s see. the A5 is a slow, fat-as-8-pigs, gorgeous looking car which has basically no performance at all.

the TTS is an uglier-than-the-original-TT, reasonably lightweight, well-powered machine which will basically smack the A5 upside its own head when it comes to performance.

        TTS > A5.

I haven’t been behind the tiller of this sucker, but I’ve got to say $50k can buy a lotta cylinders, er, car these days.

  3. I don’t think I get it

  4. Steve Levy says:

The big question is Solar Orange TTS or Grabber Blue GT500

    • Zach Bowman says:

You know my answer to that question…

      GRABBER BLUE

    • Mad_Science says:

The TTS is likely a great car in its own right, and I loves me some orange cars.

But that blue on a 540hp GT500 is like apple pie mixed with sex.

About as American and fun as you can get at the same time.
