It seem Richard Hammond, of Top Gear fame, has a 1968 Ford Mustang GT, complete with a big-block 390 under the hood. Unlike my relationship with American iron, Hammond’s has been largely drama free, dishing up the kind of reliability only the most crude forms of internal combustion can deliver – until recently. A recent hiccup on the way to the TG set recently had the Hamster deciding between the Mustang and his soulless 911. The host of everyone’s favorite Fiendish show has written up an ode to old metal, and anyone with a trust stead has got to nod their heads in agreement. Sometimes, an old rig is all about a leap of faith. Hop over to TGA to have a look at the full write up. Our favorite quote?
In the silence, punctuated only by the soft ticks and clicks of the cooling exhaust, I knew that we were at another crossroads, only this one was more significant. If I climbed out now and abandoned the Mustang for another, modern car, there would be no turning back. We would never return to where we once were. Trust would be gone forever.
