The boys (and girls) in blue at the New York Police Department will be ticketing protecting citizens in brand-spanking new Nissan Altima Hybrids. The force plans to use 22 of the rigs as unmarked cruisers while the rest will don the traditional light bar and reflective livery of the law. The reason behind the move is the Altima’s fantastic fuel economy in stop and go city driving – up to 34 mpg. The Impalas formerly used by NY’s finest could only manage 16. Ouch.
