Audi just announced plans to roll out a  new diesel engine for the A3 and A3 Sportback. The 1.6-liter turbo four-pot dishes out 105 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque in its most meaty form and returns a little over 57 mpg US. Holy hell. Part of that fantastic fuel economy is thanks to a new start/stop and energy recovery system. A 90 horse variant without the new tricks will also be available. It returns 52 mpg US.
