a3 new Audis New TDi

Audi just announced plans to roll out a  new diesel engine for the A3 and A3 Sportback. The 1.6-liter turbo four-pot dishes out 105 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque in its most meaty form and returns a little over 57 mpg US. Holy hell. Part of that fantastic fuel economy is thanks to a new start/stop and energy recovery system. A 90 horse variant without the new tricks will also be available. It returns 52 mpg US. There’s no word on when or if we’ll see the slick oil-burners in our neck of the woods. [Source: Carscoop]

The 2.0 TDI performs solidly as well…

You can hit 40 mpg all day long.
