Not too long ago, word surfaced VW had little intent of producing the bad ass, eco friendly BlueSport Concept. Our heats were crushed. It would seem our angst was premature, as Vee Dub has rolled out the sweet-looking concept at a few public outings to stir up interest. What’s more, the concept’s project leader, Mario Fabiano said the mid-engine platform could swipe parts from the rest of the fleet to keep costs low. How low? Try $30,000 low. That’s not too shabby for a turbo 2.0-liter diesel with 180 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Want even better news? Fabiano said the car would likely come with an optional gasoline engine – the same mill that powers the delicious Scirocco R. Projected production date is 2013, but we’ll just have to wait and see on that one. [Source: Autoweek]
