wrc newest Hells Yes: WRC Coverage Returns

I still remember the last time the WRC was broadcast here in the states. The championship was banished to the wee hours of the morning on Speed TV, ousted by more NASCAR coverage than should be humanly possible. I would blow off assignments and take up camp on the couch, viciously defending the remote from irate roommates who couldn’t fathom why the hell I was watching TV at 3:30 in the morning. Now it would seem the Discovery Channel is here to save the day. According to the Fiends over at 0-60 (hey, Scotto!), the WRC will be broadcast here in the land of the free on a weekly basis. Ready for the best part? It’ll be dripping in HD goodness. Evidently WRC promoter ISC partnered up with the Discovery channel to slide the coverage our way. Those kids are saints. Kid you not, saints. It may just be time to pick up a TV and cable, kids. [Source: 0-60]

Hell yes! This makes me think twice about having given up on TV. Any chances of somebody like FinalGear putting it up for torrent? It’s easier to watch things at my convenience than theirs. Especially something international like this.

Pity all those teams quit last year :<

Wow. This is going to be tough.

I dropped cable for many reasons, mostly the proliferation of ignorant, NASCAR-based drivel on Speed. Two years later, this is tempting, but I’m torn like Hunter, above.

Having discovered my local, regional rally community (which is FAR more exciting, by the way, you should find yours), is four hours of WRC in HD worth the $75 a month the cable company is going to charge me (since I’ll also have to buy the other 450 channels nobody cares about)?

Is it worth the risk of falling back into old, couch potato habits?

Is it worth losing hours to mindless channel surfing?

Is it worth being exposed to all that insulting marketing bullshit?

I dunno. Discovery is a quality network and one which I must admit I miss when I think about TV. Fortunately, they are very good about offering their programming on DVD for purchase, so maybe I’ll wait and see what other rallyistas have to say about things. Maybe I’ll go out and volunteer at California Rally Series events here in the southwest to get my fix until that first DVD is available.

Then again, maybe I just cave in. It IS rally, after all.

Get DirectTV (cheaper than cable) with an HD package with a receiver with a DVR. Problem easily solved.

And when did HD Theater become the new place for racing? Isle of Man and now WRC? I’m game!

Man I have been waiting for this day for quite a while. My friends and I used to camp out and watch WRC every minute it was on, even in the wee hours of the morning. But discovery has never let me down before and now it seems to be pulling through again. Thank you!
