Eventually. Evidently the people are demanding a low-cost fun-to-drive drop top, as Martin Winterkorn, VW head honcho, announced the company is planning a roadster for sale within five years. A concept is being prepped for the L.A. Auto show to get a feel for public opinion. It’s true that VW has pulled this trick in the past, pulling the sheets off of tasty topless models for a show just to stick them back in a dark garage somewhere never to be seen again. Word on the street is that this model is all but guaranteed at least some form of production. There are plenty of guesses as to what will power the car and which corporate brothers will take part in using the platform, with one suggesting Porsche may roll out a 914 successor (thank you, car gods). We just hope it’s something with a third pedal.
