With all the buzz surrounding the Dodge Challenger, it’s easy to forget there’s another Mopar heathen in the stable. Next year the four-door favorite of cops everywhere is getting a few cosmetic tweaks and some major wrenching under the hood. In R/T trim, the car is getting a reworked 5.7-liter Hemi 8 with 368 horsepower, up from last year’s 340. Torque gets a subtle nudge from 390 lb-ft to 395. The extra gusto is thanks to the company’s variable valve timing system, new to the car. Despite the serious power, the car should get around 24 mpg. Not too bad. The other engines in the lineup will remain largely unchanged for next year. Is there a blossoming muscle-sedan war on our hands? With contenders like the R/T Charger and Pontiac’s G8 GT joining the ranks of Lexus’s IS-F, it looks like there might just be a future fracas on the horizon. [Autoblog]
