Mercedes-Benz’s SLR Roadster has to be one of the best-looking vehicles on the planet. With its lunging-mercury nose, shark-gill side vents and low-rake windscreen, this Brit-German drop topper is what I’d drive if I had hundred dollar bills oozing out my ears, among other orifices. McLaren has turned its wrenches on the lusty lady in order to crank out a few 722 S roadsters before the sports car builder and manufacturer part ways next year. The 722 S is powered by a hand-churned, supercharged 5.5-liter V8 with 650 horses and 604 lb-ft of torque. Wedged down in a body made completely of carbon fiber (including the folding hard top), the engine launches the car to 60 in under 3.7 seconds. Unfortunately, you can only pick these up with a five-speed slushbox. Shame, as MB’s 7-speed auto is one of the world’s finest. Of course with that much torque, one gear is all you really need.
