audi-r8 V12 TDI Audi R8 Aint Happenin

Here’s a crushing blow to oil-burning Fiends everywhere. Audi has announced that wedging the super potent, 500 or so horse, 750 lb-ft of bone-breaking torque V12 TDI is just too much of a pain to follow through with. Why you ask? It’s not so much a fitment issue as a feeding issue. The big-boy 12 just needs more air than Audi can manage to supply the mighty motor with when it’s nestled behind the R8’s seats. According to the folks over at Innovation Cars, that doesn’t necessarily mean the company is abandoning the idea of a diesel R8, though the future probably holds significantly less cylinders — say, four less — than the V12 TDI. The company is currently looking into dropping a diesel 8 into their mid-engine terror, possibly sourced from the Q7 and A8. Not bad, but we’re still mourning the 12-pot’s passing. [Innovation Cars]
