CAR Magazine Online has tried to construct a car out of the absolutely nothing we know about VW’s upcoming mid-engine sportster, going so far as to craft a rendering out of pure speculation. Hat’s off to them! While we dig the very Scirocco-y front end, something gets lost in translation past the A-pillar. Along with the funky picture, CAR lays out what little is known about the drop-head, including its sub- $35,000 price tag—putting it squarely into Honda S2000/slightly used Boxster territory but well out of the Mazda MX-5 Miata’s hunting grounds. They also mention that the car can’t help but hop over the light-weight Elise’s diminutive curb weight and still hold the line on the final price tag. Bottom line? Something’s got to give, and considering no one wants to pay more than $35,000 for a drop top VW, it’ll probably be the car’s bulging waist line. However, remember that Porsche and Audi will be getting their hands on this platform. So… we still don’t know much. [Rendering courtesy of CAR Magazine Online] [Source: Car]
