tesla5 Challenging Times For Tesla

Shoulda maybe seen this one coming. Autoblog Sam’s been all over it from the start, but now brand new CEO Elon Musk has posted a blog. In it he discusses how the new economic realities of the past few weeks are forcing changes at the electric car company. First of all, they are laying some people off. As he puts it, “One of the steps I will be taking is raising the performance bar at Tesla to a very high level, which will result in a modest reduction in near term headcount.” Roughly translated, their Rochester Hills office near Detroit will be going bye-bye. As for what’s going on personnel-wise at Tesla’s San Carlos and Menlo Park offices (as well as their dealerships) no one seems to know. Musk has assumed the roll of CEO and former CEO Ze’ev Drori is now on the board of directors. The big news however, is the delay of the highly anticipated Model S electric sedan. That’s primarily what the Rochester Hills office was concerned with. Musk is claiming a six-month delay for the Model S. For now. And if it does go forward (contingent upon some DOE loans) the new car will be built in California. [Source: Tesla Motors]
