Horne Collection

If you’re like us, odds are you spend a good bit of time perusing eBay and the local Craigslist for possible diamonds in the rough. What if you took home every car that caught your eye? What if you had the space to store them? How long do you think it would take you to say the hell with it and sell the whole lot? For Jeff Horne in Sevierville, TN, the answer is five years. See, Horne picked up a set of Chevrolet Novas for his son, and after snagging a couple of extra parts cars, he just kept finding excellent deals on bulk vintage iron and drug them all home. Fast-forward five years and they’re all for sale. On the whole, the lot is made of ’58-’75 tin from Tennessee, North Carolina and Georgia, though there are a few outliers here and there. A handful were roadworthy within the last year, though the majority would be candidates for complete rebuilds or parts cars. The galleries below and after the jump have at least one shot of nearly every car Horne has for sale, though he says some have already found a new home. With two massive Rod shows in town this month, the collection won’t last long. If you see something you like, call Horne at 865.286.9332. Now the only question is, what would you take home? Hop the jump to see the full lot.

The collection is mostly made up of Domestic metal, but a few fun Europeans are in the mix, too. I spotted a Renault Dauphine and this OG VW Rabbit snugged in amongs the Camaros and Caminos.

Horne says he’ll probably hold onto a handful of the Novas, especially the SS cars mixed in the lot. No worries, though, there are plenty to go around.

Predominantly a General Motors and Mopar fan, Horne has a few Thunderbirds and Galaxies thrown in for good measure.

If Firebirds are your game, Horne’s got enough to  make several complete cars, including at least one with the screaming eagle on the hood. I couldn’t get under the hood to see if an anemic 455 lurked behind the headlights.

There are even a few AMCs on hand for the truly twisted. This particular Hornet had seen better days, but a nearby Ambassador wagon looked like it was ready to tackle grocery duty at a second’s notice.

While most of the metal isn’t going to be show-stopping material, the sight of a Kawalski-white Challenger tucked away in the shadows was enough to make my knees go Jello in a hurry. A mighty V8 sits between the fenders, but exactly which V8 that is remains to be seen.

Not everything in the mix has more patina than actual sheet metal, as this Duster clone demonstrates.

  1. Places like this are the greatest finds out there. I always have clients looking for the classic car or muscle car. They want something that is not a show stopper, but not unrestorable, just a good project. It is nice to know that someone out there is putting a group of cars together that will be great projects for the average joe.
